Outdoor Safety Month Funding
Outdoor Safety Month: Launching “Adventure Smart WA”
With more people exploring Western Australia’s great outdoors, the rise in rescues involving inexperienced adventurers highlights the need for greater public safety awareness. In response, Outdoors WA has secured grant funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) to launch an annual Outdoor Safety Month.
This initiative will raise awareness about outdoor safety and work to reduce preventable incidents, helping people enjoy WA’s natural beauty responsibly and confidently.
What is Outdoor Safety Month?
Outdoor Safety Month will be a collaborative, sector-wide campaign designed to:
- Unite stakeholders across the outdoor industry in a coordinated approach to safety.
- Develop a unified, umbrella campaign message for consistent safety messaging.
- Act as a platform for sub-campaigns targeting specific activities, environments, and audiences.
- Achieve measurable safety improvements by reducing rescues relative to WA’s growing outdoor community.
Introducing Adventure Smart WA (Working title)
The inaugural Adventure Smart WA – Ready. Set. Explore. (working title) campaign will be the cornerstone of Outdoor Safety Month. This campaign will offer practical safety guidelines and promote essential preparation for land- and water-based activities. Through education, public engagement, and easily accessible resources, Adventure Smart WA will empower everyone to explore WA’s outdoors safely.
